Privacy Policy
Last updated October 28, 2026
Avense is operated by Deep Blue Development LLC. This policy covers the Avense mobile app and web service. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@avense.app.
Information we process
- Account and profile: account identifiers, email, sign-in information provided by your authentication provider, display name, username, optional profile photo and biography, privacy settings, and an optional phone number if you add or verify one.
- Nutrition and fitness: goals, age, sex used for calculations, height, weight and weight history, activity and workout information, suitability answers for nutrition estimates, targets, food logs, meal photos, nutrition estimates, pantry items, preferences, and saved recipes. These may reveal health information.
- Community content: posts, comments, reactions, messages and their participants, follow relationships, requests, blocks, reports, and any place label you choose to add to a post. Avense does not require GPS location for these labels.
- Contact discovery: when you opt in, a verified phone number is used to create a protected matching value. Phone numbers you choose to submit from contacts are processed for matching; the contact list is not saved as an Avense address book. Account verification information is handled by our authentication provider. Social connections are retained to provide the friends features.
- Purchases and service use: subscription status, product and transaction identifiers, purchase history, billing account identifiers, recipe interactions, import activity, notification tokens, preferences, and technical records such as request identifiers, errors, and performance. Hosting and service providers may process IP addresses and device or browser information for delivery, security, and operations. Payment card details are handled by the payment provider, not stored in Avense's application database.
- Support: information you send when asking for help.
How we use information
We use information to authenticate you, save and sync your data, calculate and display nutrition estimates, personalize meals and recommendations, provide community and messaging features, deliver requested notifications, administer subscriptions, answer support requests, and protect and troubleshoot the service. Social sharing and optional permissions are not necessary for ordinary manual food logging.
Usage analytics
To see which parts of Avense people use and where they get stuck, the app records app opens, screens viewed, buttons tapped, paywall steps, which features are used, and error codes, along with the app version, the device platform, and a random install ID created on your device. When you are signed in, these records are linked to your account. They never include your meals, messages, or health readings.
Usage analytics stay with Avense. We do not use them for advertising, we do not sell them, and we do not use third-party analytics services for them. You can turn them off in Settings → Profile and privacy → Share usage analytics; the app then stops recording and sending them. We keep usage analytics for 400 days, and records linked to your account are deleted when you delete your account.
Apple Health (optional)
On supported iPhones, Avense can read steps, active energy, and weight from Apple Health to show your progress. These readings are displayed on your device only; we do not upload them to our servers, send them to AI providers, use them for advertising, or share them in social posts.
During onboarding you can choose to let Avense read your date of birth, biological sex, height, weight, steps, active energy and workouts to pre-fill your answers. This happens on your device. Only the answers you confirm are sent to Avense; no Apple Health readings are uploaded.
Apple Health data never automatically changes your nutrition targets. You can change or revoke access in Apple Health at any time. No data may mean permission was not granted or no samples are available.
See our Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice for health-related information, recipients, and rights.
Photos, recipe imports, and AI
AI features use OpenAI and stay off until you allow them: with the optional box when you create your account, or once, the first time you use photo logging, a meal description, or a recipe import. If you decline, nothing is sent to OpenAI and manual entry remains available. You can turn AI features off at any time in Settings → Profile and privacy. While they are on, the selected image, meal description, notes, or recipe material is sent to OpenAI to estimate ingredients, portions, instructions, or nutrition. Recipe analysis may use text, captions, audio, and video frames. Crop out names, addresses, payment details, and other information that is not needed for the request.
Saved diary entries may include a meal photo. Profile photos, social posts, recipe drafts, recipes, reviewed estimates, and related content may also be stored. The meal-photo analysis endpoint records an account-owned analysis receipt; saving an entry or sharing it can retain the reviewed result and image separately.
Our current meal-photo requests disable OpenAI response storage. This does not mean that no provider retention occurs: security, abuse-monitoring, and legal retention may apply under the provider's terms. Review AI results before using or sharing them. They are estimates, not medical advice.
Providers and third-party content
Service providers process information needed for their role. They include Supabase for authentication and database services, Render for the API and hosting operations, Expo for app and web infrastructure and supported notifications, OpenAI for requested AI processing, RevenueCat for subscription management and purchase analytics, Resend for email alerts to our team (such as content reports, which can include an excerpt of the reported content), and Apple or Google for applicable sign-in and store services.
Recipe images, links, and embedded videos may load from external publishers or platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube where supported. Opening an embed or visiting a link can send network and device information to that service, and its cookies, account state, and privacy practices may apply. Avense does not control those services. Read the relevant provider's privacy policy before interacting with their content.
Information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our providers operate. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or to investigate abuse. We do not operate an advertising network or use your nutrition records to target advertisements.
Sharing and permissions
Optional Coaching in Progress lets you approve a named trainer to view your daily nutrition targets, logged calories and macros, entry counts, and trends from the date you choose. Manually logged Avense weight is a separate option, off by default. Your meal details, photos, notes, and Apple Health readings are not included. Trainers cannot edit your goals or logs. Review their view, change permissions, see recent access, or stop sharing in Progress → Coaching. Following someone or making your profile public does not grant coaching access. Stopping sharing prevents future authorized reads; information a trainer already recorded cannot be recalled.
Information you publish or send to others is visible through the selected feature and its audience controls. Choose your public or private profile setting carefully. Recipients may keep copies of shared content. An AI label may remain attached to assisted content after edits.
You control supported camera, photo, contacts, and notification permissions through your device settings. The app uses local storage for sessions, preferences, and pending changes. Disabling permissions can make the corresponding optional feature unavailable.
Retention, access, and deletion
We keep account information while it is needed to provide the service and meet security, operational, and legal obligations. You can edit supported information in the app. Use Settings → Export my data or Settings → Delete account, or contact us to request access, correction, export, deletion, or help with privacy choices. We may verify account ownership before acting.
Account deletion runs through a background process. Limited deletion-prevention/security records, provider transaction records, legal records, and backups may remain for their applicable purposes and retention periods. Copies other people independently saved are outside our control. Deleting an account does not automatically cancel a subscription purchased through an app store; manage that subscription with its provider.
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights, including objecting to or restricting processing, withdrawing consent for optional processing, and contacting your local privacy regulator. Email us to exercise a right or ask about the data we hold.
Age and intended audience
Avense's first public release is intended for adults aged 18 and older. It is not intended as a children's service. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action. An App Store age rating is a content rating, not identity or age verification.
Security and updates
We use access controls and other safeguards to protect information, but no service can guarantee absolute security. Keep your credentials private. We may update this policy as the service changes and will update the effective date; material changes will be communicated as required.
