Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice
Avense
Last updated October 28, 2026
This notice supplements our Privacy Policy for health-related information handled by Avense. Avense is operated by Deep Blue Development LLC. Contact support@avense.app about this notice or your privacy choices. Avense is intended for adults aged 18 and over.
Information and sources
You may provide age, calculation sex, height, weight, nutrition goals, activity information, food preferences, suitability answers, meals, food descriptions, photos, and recipes. Nutrition estimates, portions, targets, dietary preferences, and inferences associated with your account can reveal health information. We obtain this information from you, your use of requested features, and the recipe or food sources you select.
Apple Health (optional). If you connect Apple Health, Avense reads your date of birth, biological sex, height, weight, steps, active energy and workouts on your iPhone. During onboarding these readings pre-fill your age, sex for calculation, height and weight, and suggest your workouts per week and daily movement from the last 30 days. You review every answer and can change it. Only the answers you confirm are sent to Avense, the same as if you typed them. No Apple Health readings are uploaded to Avense or sent to OpenAI. Avense does not write to Apple Health. You can turn off access at any time in iPhone Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.
Why we process it
We process information to provide the features you request, including food logging, targets, recipe management, nutrition estimates, progress views, account support, and selected social sharing. We do not use your nutrition records for targeted advertising or sell them. We do not use geofences around health facilities to identify or track people seeking health services.
Avense asks you to review health-data processing separately from optional AI requests. Withdrawing this permission stops new use of the app's health-data features. Your existing records remain until the applicable deletion process removes them. Privacy requests, exports, and account deletion remain available without renewing that permission.
AI is optional
AI features use OpenAI and are off until you allow them, either with the optional box when you create your account or once, the first time you use photo logging, a meal description, or a recipe import. While they are on, the material you choose for those features is sent to OpenAI; depending on the feature, this can include a photo, food description, notes, recipe text, audio, or video frames. Declining sends nothing to OpenAI, and manual entry remains available. You can turn AI features off at any time in Settings → Profile and privacy; this stops new requests but cannot recall an analysis already sent.
Meal-photo requests disable OpenAI response storage, but security, abuse-monitoring, and legal retention can still apply. Remove names, addresses, payment details, and other unnecessary information before submitting material. See OpenAI's privacy information.
Recipients and your sharing choices
Supabase provides account and database infrastructure; Render hosts API operations; Expo supports app infrastructure and notifications; OpenAI processes requested AI analyses. Each receives information necessary for its function. Payment and subscription services are described in our general policy; using those services does not require sending them your diary or body measurements.
People you choose to share with may receive the content you publish or send. External websites and social embeds receive information when you choose to interact with them. Review your audience and profile settings before sharing. Copies independently saved by recipients may remain outside Avense's control.
Your rights and controls
You can use Settings to export your data, edit supported information, change profile visibility, or request account deletion. To request access, correction, deletion of health information, withdrawal of optional processing permission, details about recipients where applicable, or an appeal of a denied request, email support@avense.app. State what you are requesting; do not send identity documents or additional health information unless a proportionate verification step is specifically needed.
Profile and privacy also lets you submit and track these requests in the app, including an appeal of a denied request. A request marked open or in progress has not been completed. Use its reference number when contacting support about the scope of a correction or deletion.
We will verify ownership proportionately and respond within applicable legal deadlines. An appeal can be sent to the same address with “Privacy appeal” in the subject. Applicable laws may also allow a complaint to your state attorney general or another privacy regulator. These rights are not conditioned on agreeing to unrelated optional processing.
Retention and deletion
We retain information for the purposes described in this notice, subject to applicable rights and retention requirements. Account deletion disables normal app access and runs a retryable cleanup process. Private media, account-linked processing records, and generated files must be addressed before the process reports completion. If cleanup cannot be verified, the request remains incomplete for retry or reconciliation.
Export download access lasts no more than 24 hours. A scheduled process clears expired export content and download tokens every 15 minutes while the service is operating. AI permission receipts contain request identifiers, purpose, version, and timing, rather than copies of the submitted content; they are kept for up to 90 days or removed with the account. We monitor cleanup failures for follow-up.
Limited security records used to prevent account recreation, legally required records, isolated backups, and provider-held records may require separate handling. We do not promise that deleting an account instantly removes every backup or information that another person independently saved. Contact us for the scope and timeline of your request; where required, deletion requests are communicated to relevant processors and recipients.
Optional trainer sharing
In Progress → Coaching, you can explicitly approve a named trainer to view daily nutrition targets, logged calories and macros, entry counts, and trends from the date shown. Weight manually recorded in Avense is optional and starts off. Meal details, photos, notes, and Apple Health readings are excluded. The trainer confirms the connection before seeing approved information and cannot change your records. Social follows or profile visibility do not grant this access.
You can preview the trainer's view, change permissions, view recent access, or stop sharing in Progress → Coaching. Stopping sharing prevents future authorized reads; a view already delivered can remain on screen for up to 30 seconds, and information independently recorded by the trainer cannot be recalled. Blocking, account deletion, or withdrawing health-data permission also ends the connection. Reconnecting requires fresh consent.
Coaching consent records identify the people, permission choices, date range, version, and decision time rather than copying nutrition values. They remain with the account until deletion. Value-free access events are retained for up to 90 days; expired unclaimed invitations and mutation-retry records are cleared after 30 days by scheduled maintenance. Backups follow the separate recovery and deletion procedures described above.
Changes
Material new purposes or sharing practices require updated disclosure and any permission required by applicable law. The current version will be available through Settings and this page.
